Abby Mangold (MCIPR), MD and Founder

 

I founded Mangold Consultancy in 2014, inspired to bring together everything I’d learnt from 15 years at the BBC and my subsequent crisis experience ‘on the other side’ with global PR agency Burson-Marsteller.

Negotiating with Communications Directors and CEOs, as a Producer on BBC Watchdog, informed my understanding of how to best handle the press. Rehearsing live interviews with Anne Robinson each week, fine tuned my ability to get my point across under challenging circumstances.

I am at my best face-to-face, be it media training, talking through a rebuttal to an allegation, working alongside teams engulfed in an issue or putting a CEO and their team to work during a crisis simulation. I always bring an outside perspective – thinking as a journalist, consumer, business owner and comms professional.

Big business doesn’t always enjoy the most favourable of reputations. Companies are being scrutinised from all angles and I thrive on preparing for those difficult questions, challenging my clients on their answers to ensure they’re honest, concise and relevant.

Jess Mangold, Director

 

As a former journalist on local, regional and daily newspapers, I wrote breaking news and features and earned professional qualifications in law, local and national government. Like the shorthand I had to master to quickly capture quotes and facts, this early career continues to shape my approach to communications and PR today.

I follow current affairs closely, monitoring how issues are picked up by the daily news and social media agenda. I have worked in the public and private sector and for charities, both in-house and agency side, delivering proactive media and PR campaigns. This includes the Alzheimer's Society's successful legal and public affairs campaign around access to drugs and separately, efforts to protect specialist NHS services. At all stages I am able to advise on managing press in the face of reputational scrutiny.

More recently leading strategic communications for complex London projects, I have planned and delivered wide ranging stakeholder engagement and public consultation. I am able to support organisations to promote and protect their business objectives, working closely with leaders and their in-house teams to ensure they are communicating clearly at all times.

 

Justin Clark

 

A self-confessed social media addict, I help businesses understand the digital landscape and how it impacts them during times of crisis. Using data and digital tools I help organisations understand what people are saying about their brand online - the good, the bad and the ugly - and help them prepare for a crisis when it breaks on their social feeds.

I have extensive experience working in-house and consulting in crisis communications, PR, political relations and social media across Government and the public sector.

As Head of Social Media at Transport for Greater Manchester I transformed how the largest transport authority outside London communicates online. My previous experience includes leading social media in the Higher Education and Transport sectors and helping business transform its use of social media.

In a previous life, supporting the work of senior MPs, I advised on how to communicate effectively, managed media relations for high profile national and international political issues, and supported the work of Select Committees and All-Party Parliamentary groups in Parliament

 

Julia Walton (MCIPR)

 

I have extensive experience working on busy press desks across complex topics such as social care, transport, crime and public health. I’ve advised politicians from Cabinet Members to local councillors during fast-moving and difficult situations.

I’m able to draft, tailor and fine tune responses for a range of audiences and advise beyond the media reaction to ensure stakeholders and staff are kept well informed.

Part of my training has involved emergency planning exercises preparing responses as part of a multi-agency taskforce on subjects such as terrorism and flooding and I’ve been trained by the Emergency Planning College. As part of the Mangold Consultancy team, I will provide a political perspective to the issue you are facing.

 

Sarah Welsh

 

I have nearly 20 years’ experience of in-house and consultant communications roles, across a variety of sectors including FMCG, not-for-profit/charity, emergency services, manufacturing, technology, environmental and investor relations.

I’m a hands-on communicator who’s not afraid to tackle any task with a calm and measured approach. I genuinely believe in the positive impact that effective communications can have for organisations and their stakeholders in both good times and those that present more of a challenge.

From researching companies, sectors or specific issues to drafting responses and executing distribution, I have the confidence and ability to communicate complex messages and information using a range of tactics and channels.
